Epipactis helleborine


Perennial herbaceous plant with horizontal rhizome. Stems are 1-3, 35-80 cm high, with mossy hairs, denser at the top of the stem. Leaves 4-9 are spirally located, medium horizontal, oval to broad-lanceolate, 7-15 × 3-10 cm, the upper smaller, lanceolate. The inflorescence consists of up to 100 flowers, often thick, more or less unilateral; bracts are longer than flowers.
The flowers are open, slightly bent, the colour is variable, mainly oily-green, with pink and hue shades, the petals are 8-15 mm long. The back of the labellum is concave, brown-red, shiny, green or pink, at the base with 2 bumps, separated by a deep groove and darker colour. The ovary is filamentary; the fruit is a pear-shaped box with a short handle that is violet at the base.
This orchids blooms in July. It is pollinated by insects.
