Ophrys sphegodes subsp. mammosa


Stems reach 15-40 cm height with 3-5 greyish-green leaves. The inflorescences are sparse. The sepals are spread out. They are coloured in bright olive-green, their sideways are usually with a brownish-red lower half. The mouth is rounded, short and velvety in brown or dark purple colour, with 2 noticeable lateral bumps (called also "chest, cheat", from which comes the Latin name). On the upper part there is a pattern in the shape of two strips or a spot in the form of the letter "H". The species flowers in April.
