Serapias vomeracea

Perennial herbaceous plant with 2 oval tubers. Stems are 20-50 cm high, with 4-7 lanceolate leaves. The inflorescences is with 3-10 flowers. The gray-violet petals are 21-30 mm long, 5-9 mm wide, pointed, collected in a helmet along with of the two petals. The labellum is trilobed, lateral rounded, curved upwards, included in the helmet, middle lancet, tapered, fibrous, red-brown colour.
This species blooms from May to June.
Pollinated by insects. The plant propagation is by seeds as well as through vegetative way (in favourable years it forms 1-4 new tubers in long chairs).
